However, political pressure at the time did not take long and in 1963 appeared an exhibition titled ”Art and Peace.“ This has discouraged previous supporters of the museum, part of the collection remained in the museum, the other was divided between the friends of existing patrons. Since 1985, there are efforts to restore the museum of contemporary art, but real step toward bringing success to the establishment of Foundation MACBA 1987. Foundation, chaired by Leopoldo Rodes, who pioneered the project, mainly a private initiative and support. In April 1988 it was finally a new museum in the world, but opened its doors to the public until November 28, 1995. Architecturally, the museum part of the American architect Richard Meier, who gave him a longitudinal layout of 120 x 35 m, built in the style of rationalism.
The main idea of this style is a dialogue between interior and external lighting. Each floor of the gallery as if bathed in light coming from the outside, it is the main philosophy of the architect Meier. His aim was to create a network of gallery space, which are unique to their mutual differences and usability. Meier claims that the change will be art exhibits, and therefore the museum should not be monotonous to always find just the right space for the forthcoming exhibition - small, big, bright and less disposed. The main entrance is an entrance hall with ramps. Ramps allow visitors to view the gallery collection on the one hand, on the other side view of the city. During this tour you always go through a glass atrium, which then becomes the main communication artery of the museum.
